As I was making my dwarven bard custom, I began to think about what other races I could make a bard for. Of course, I quickly landed on goblins and was like, “Yes! I need a goblin bard!”
Doing a quick Google image search for inspiration, I found a pic of a goblin wearing black and white facepaint. I immediately fell in love with the idea of a goblin wearing Kabuki-like makeup and my design was on the way!
You can read this character's story on my Instagram page.
This started as a goblin legion builder, but I replaced the lower legs with some from a skeleton warrior and some feet from a 1.0 barbarian kit. Those longer legs and big feet really gave me the look I wanted for my bard.
For his instrument, I ended up deciding on a drum, which allowed this character to do double duty as both a bard and a war-drummer. The drum is from the Muppets Animal figure from Palisades. I added the skull deco to the front, which is from a Warcraft Moradin Bronzebeard figure. For his mallets, I use a pair of ML mace handles with some skulls from the goblin legion builder.
The head on Destroyer is a custom from William Robert Post and Seba Dom over at www.MyActionFigureCustoms.com. I actually found this head quite challenging to paint, especially the tiny teeth. It took me a few tries to get the look I wanted, but I eventually got it right and added the white and black facepaint, which I intentionally wanted to look a bit raw, which I think I accomplished.
The final piece I added was the banners on his back, which are from a Spawn Samurai Wars figure. I did a Google search for “goblin alphabet” and found some examples that I used here. The letters spell out “GOBS ROKK”
