The Mythic Legions action figure customs of Jeremy Girard

Magi

Gaspar

This figure is part of my "Traveling Magi" series. Loosely based on the "3 Magi" (or 3 Wise Men, 3 Kings, etc.) from the biblical story of the first Christmas, I imagined these characters as warrior scholars from exotic lands. Be sure to also view the entries for the other 2 Magi, Balthazar and Melichor.

Like the other figures in this series, I wanted this “Magi” to have an exotic feel to his design. To accomplish that, I used a number of pieces from Toy Biz’s Lord of the Rings line. In fact, that line really contributed heavily to all three of my Magi customs.
Gaspar started with a Cador figure as the base body. I actually swapped out his upper legs for a pair from a Sir Valgard because I wanted to make the figure a bit shorter so that the “skirt” piece would rest on the ground the way that it was sculpted to look.  Since that skirt covers the entire upper part of the legs, you don’t even notice and it really doesn’t make the figure that much shorter, just enough to achieve the effect I wanted.

That aforementioned skirt came from a Lord of the Rings Solider of the Dead figure (the exclusive one from the Battle of Pelennor Fields pack). His chest armor is also from the LOTR line, from the Haradrim Archer toy, while his bow is from a Legolas and his quiver and arrows are from a Prologue Elf Soldier. I used a faulds piece from a Knight Builder set to hide the connection point between the chest and the skirt and used a pair of daggers from Unkann. Once again, when it came to Unkann, I had always thought the orange looked out of place, but it worked great in this design.

The head on this figure is a custom cast I found on eBay. The seller painted it to match Cador’s skin tone and I added the optional helmet from a WWE accessory set I had lying around to give this design one final interesting addition.
