The Mythic Legions action figure customs of Jeremy Girard

Mari Lwyd

The final entry in my "Winter series" is the Mari Lwyd. I first read about this interesting Welsh holiday tradition in a book about Krampus and other dark holiday customs. Looking up images of the Mari Lwyd online, I found a really great piece of art that I used as the inspiration for my custom (you can see that art on one of the pics in this album). I added a little Mythic Legions spin to the design, making the Mari Lwyd the final addition to my Winter Court, alongside Morzoko the Winter King, Krampus, and Klaus the Lord of the North Pole.

The Mari Lwyd custom uses a variety of parts. The Bone arms, legs, and neck are from a Skeleton Legion builder. The torso is from a Sir Gideon Heavensbrand. The armored lower arms, hands, lower legs, and feet are from a Torionn, as is his blue staff. I topped that staff with the "wood" magic staff piece from one of the weapon's packs and painted the ball on top to better match the custom. The axe he wields is from a Marvel Legends Odinson.

The figure's robes all came from a Lord of the Rings Twilight Ringwraith figure. I absolutely cannibalized that toy to add the waist skirt, the upper arms (which slipped right over the bones), and the piece that goes on his chest and back. I had to add small dabs of glue to the skirt and back piece to get them to stay in place the way I wanted, but since I don't plan of taking this apart anytime soon, that doesn't bother me at all.

The head started with a Skallox figure from DC's Green Lantern line. I cut off the horns it came with and added some modified Mythic Legions' antlers, as well as some ribbons from a Spawn Zera figure. I painted the skull to better match the figure's bones and added a modified faulds piece to hide the waist connection and the custom was done!
